Interdisciplinary Student Murals

In 2021, three areas at SDSU - Student Affairs and Campus Diversity, the School of Art and Design, and Arts Alive SDSU -  collaborated to create an innovative program for student murals to be created across campus to focus on issues of social justice. Students were invited to submit proposals for interdisciplinary teams to create murals on particular issues and themes related to social justice. The committee reviewed several inspiring proposals and selected five teams to complete their projects. These artist teams were awarded $1500 each to create and install their proposed project at various campus locations, including four on the main SDSU campus and one at SDSU Imperial Valley.

Inspired by the diversity on campus, Ortuño focused on the celebratory nature of biculturalism on campus and in San Diego. The artist would like to extend her sincerest thanks to Sabrina Davidson, Emily Fox, Yesenia Hayes, Kasie Murdock, Omar Ortuño, Marina Ortuño, and Johnny Villamar for the immense help in making this mural come to life. itzelortuno.com
