Tuyo Theatre promotes productions in the San Diego area that tell stories from and by diverse Latinx perspectives. In October 2017, Co-founders Daniel Jáquez, Patrice Amon, Crystal Mercado, Bernardo Mazón, Peter Cirino, and Evelyn Diaz Cruz held the first meeting that prompted the start of the company. Conversations about the lack of Latinx representation in the theatre community within San Diego took place between several artists who were committed to making the city a hub for Latinx theatre.
