On May 2nd, 2023, Mackenzie Moore, the 2022-2023 Research Assistant to the IAHSJ, hosted a student-centered gathering with a screening of two films from the Africa World Documentary Film Festival, titled “DANCEDANCE/RE♢VOLUTION” and “The Rise of the African Female Drummer.”

SDSU celebrated the unveiling of "Black in Crimson & Black," a mural painted by alumnae Sabrina Davidson ('21) and Avia Ramm ('20) and located in the RIO area on the first floor of the Love Library dome.

Prison Arts Collective will have an art auction and Peter Merts will speak on EX CRUCIBLE: THE PASSION OF INCARCERATED ARTISTS. The photographs of Ex Crucible show incarcerated men and women creating artworks with a talent, passion, and authenticity that illuminate the humanity of the artists.

Vin Ryan is an artist, educator, and scholar from Australia. He is visiting SDSU on a Fellowship with Prison Arts Collective (PAC) granted by the International Specialised Skills Institute, designed to allow educators to travel overseas to observe/ participate/ contribute to areas of education that are identified as in need of improvement within the Australian system.

Solidarity as Homebase was the first public event hosted by The Institute for the Arts, Humanities and Social Justice. It took place on May 4, 2022 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm PT and was attended by over 240 people, including students, faculty, and community members.
